The Supernatural, Sci-Fi, Superhero Shop

The Comic Monstore is Rowan County’s premier destination for comic books, games and toys.  Since 2003, The Comic Monstore has catered to fans of super heroes, fantasy, science-fiction and horror.  While the store has a wide variety of collectibles for kids of all ages, it has also become a gathering place for gamers.  Weekly events usually include Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, Disney’s Lorcana TCG, Riftbound: League of Legends TCG, Star Wars Unlimited TCG, Pathfinder RPG, and a variety of other card games and board games.

The Comic Monstore opened in May of 2003.  Conveniently located near exit 75, off of I-85, the shop is easy to locate.  The store is owned by Ray & Karen Franks, and the store manager is Shane Peoples.  If you are hungry, we are near several locations for food including Massimo’s Sandwich Shop, Culver’s, Wendy’s, Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant, and Ichiban’s Japanese Steakhouse.

A new story arc starts with Supergirl #11, HERO OF KANDOR! With the bottled city on fire (literally), Kara Zor-El abandons the comfort of Midvale to save the last survivors of Krypton. The youth are in revolt after a shocking secret is revealed, and the Science Council is put on trial for its crimes against the next generation. Can Supergirl find peace between the two warring factions? Pick up the newest issue of Supergirl at Comic Monstore or other fine comic book shops.

Happy Women’s History Month! When women started appearing in comics in the 1930’s, they usually fell into two categories: the love interest or side character. When Sheena from Tarzan appeared in 1938, even though she was the alleged queen of the jungle, she mainly served as a plot device for Tarzan. In 1941, Wonder Woman was introduced to the world, and it was earth-shattering. By 1942, Wonder Woman had her own comic series and the rest is history. Over the years, women have entered the comic book and publishing industry as writers and artists. They’ve used their positions to bring realistic nuisances to female characters, and it has made comics better.
